MAHATMA GANDHI NATIONAL RURAL EMPLOYMENT GUARANTEE SCHEME
The Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act, 2005 [MGNREGA] aims at enhancing the livelihood security of people in rural areas by guaranteeing 100 [hundred] days of wage employment in a financial year to a rural household whose adult members volunteer to do unskilled manual work.
The Job Card is a key document that records workers’ entitlements under MGNREGA. It legally empowers the registered households to apply for work, ensures transparency and protects workers against fraud. Erstwhile, there are other registers also maintained at each Gram Panchayat / PIA for documentation and keeping records of executed schemes as good governance, like, Demand Register, Employment Allocation Register, Assets Register, Scheme Register, Complain Register, Stock Register, Material Procurement Register etc.
Our main objects are social protection for the most vulnerable people living in rural areas by providing employment opportunities, Livelihood security for the poor through the creation of durable assets, improved water security, soil conservation and higher land productivity, Drought-proofing and flood management in rural areas, especially women, Scheduled Castes (SCs) and Schedules Tribes (STs), through the processes of rights-based legislation, Strengthening decentralized, Participatory planning through the convergence of various anti-poverty and livelihoods initiatives.
In last Financial Year 2018-19 we generate 11826817 nos. Person days by providing employment150345nosrural Household and incurred Rs. 3048.13 Lakh for different types of development schemes. Again, in the current Financial Year 2019-20 [up to Nov’19]we achieved 5058841 nos. Person days by involving 143750nos Rural Job Card Holder Household and incurred Rs. 26757.76 Lakh.
