Utkarsh Bangla

Government of West Bengal is Committed towards large scale Skill development for its youth population to improve the scope of gainful employment and entrepreneurial opportunities under the WBSDM (West Bengal Skill Development Mission) chaired by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of West Bengal. To ensure that the above commitment is met successfully the Department of Technical Education, Training & Skill Development; Government of West Bengal has launched the “Utkarsh Bangla”, a flagship scheme on 16th February 2016 under the aegis of the PBSSD (Paschim Banga Society for Skill Development) for placement linked short-term skill trainings across the State of West Bengal.

  • West Bengal government has launched the Utkarsh Bangla Scheme with an aim of providing vocational training to school dropouts.
  • Objective of the scheme is to give vocational training to school dropouts by providing training ranging from 400 to 1200 hours free of charge.
  • Under this scheme, beneficiaries will be trained in driving, tailoring, repairing television and other electronic equipment’s, beautician courses etc.
  • On completion the courses beneficiaries will be given Certificates would be given to those
  • Two internationally-recognised schemes of the Bangla Government are coming together for a better world. Class XI and XII students enlisted under the Kanyashree Scheme are now going to get career-centric technical education under the aegis of Utkarsh Bangla.
  • The students will also get a stipend of Rs 50 per day during the course of the training.
  • “Utkarsh Bangla” has won the prestigious World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) awards under the aegis of the United Nations. Out of 1062 nominations in 18 categories, “Utkarsh Bangla” got the topmost award and emerged a winner in Capacity Building category.

While the TET &SD Development through its Directorates and Councils supervises 250 ITIs, 153 polytechnics and around 3500 vocational training centers operating all over the state, it also provides requisite support for short term skill Development. The annual target of skilling in the state would be around 6 lakh youths under the institutional and non-institutional mode.
