From mango grower to global entrepreneur — how Malda’s mangoes reached the world.
Prasun Chitlangia
A progressive mango grower who turned his passion for horticulture into a thriving agribusiness. In 2024 he set up a fruit-processing unit in Malda, producing mango, litchi and other fruit-based products. To meet global quality, packaging and food-safety standards he studied international markets first-hand and worked closely with farmers and FPOs — with technical support from ICAR–CISH Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Malda and APEDA, Kolkata.
His efforts delivered the district’s first-ever export of Malda mangoes, carrying their unique taste to consumers across five countries — and earning participating farmers nearly double their usual income.
